Summary of Episode:

Jenn speaks to Cudjuy Malijugau, a Paiwan Aboriginal interior and floral designer who founded Gathering Art Studio based out of Taidong, Taiwan. Cudjuy shares with us some of his more impactful moments in life from returning home to live and work in the “buluo” community, rediscovering his roots, culture, ethnic identity and relationship with nature and it’s surrounding. He talks about Taidong and the Taiwanese aboriginal culture, why it is important to practice communicating in life and to learn to live alongside with nature and how he uses these approaches to designing spaces for his clients.

We can’t relive the past but, we can learn the wisdom and ways of what our ancestors have left behind for us to live our everyday life.

Cudjuy Malijugau is a renowned Paiwan Aboriginal interior and floral designer based out of Taidong, Taiwan, and founder of Gathering Art Studio (出萃生活工作室). With a degree in interior & visual communication design from Chao Yang University, Cudjuy has over 10 years of experience designing spaces across the Eastern Coastline of Taiwan. He brings his ethnic aboriginal roots and modern aesthetics into his designs, with a strong sense of embodying our natural environment into our daily living and event spaces. He believes that we should appreciate and thank our island for all the beauty and resources it gives us and that we can nourish our living spaces using nature’s aesthetics, it is after all an energy exchange!
