Jenn speaks to Filipina, Manila based Denise de Castro the Principal Architect of Deca Design Collaborative. With a talent and interest in art from a young age, Denise later on went to pursue a degree in architecture from Wellesley College and then a masters from Harvard University school of Architecture. Her degrees then gave her opportunities to practice and built her foundation in the field when she moved back to Manila. Fast forward to today, Denise has devoted her career to designing in projects for others and now an entrepreneur herself having her own design firm! Denise dives into a conversation about design with purpose where she feels strongly about how design can improve and impact our life experiences and why she chose to transition from a designer with a business to an entrepreneur with a design business and everything in between!
Trying to use design in ways beyond design [has always been my question], how can design impact community how can it impact food generation, how it can impact economy.
About Denise de Castro:
Denise de Castro is the Principal Architect of DDC Architectural Studio. She has a Master of Architecture from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College. She has worked in design offices in the US and in the Philippines, notably IDEO (San Francisco), CBT Architects (Boston), and Lor Calma Design Associates (Manila). At DDC, she leads a passionate and talented team.
